We are so proud of the achievements made by our participants during the three year Spreading Wings project, made possible by National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund. This film (below), looks back at our participant’s experiences and the creative work they made during this time. The project included weekly creative movement workshops at Storyhouse, Chester along with weekly wellbeing sessions, as well as outreach and volunteer training and opportunities.
The community aspect of the project was important and this was reinforced with cultural group visits and Recovery Social events. This included tickets to attend various Storyhouse performances during the three years including Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre, Christmas shows and cinema tickets (with thanks to Storyhouse) The group also held regular Recovery Social events encouraging the local recovery community to come together, enjoy performances, engage in panel discussions and to socialise.
Spreading Wings had a strand of outreach work in Cheshire West and Leigh in Greater Manchester engaging people in taster workshops and meet & greets.
11 participants have become Supporting Angel volunteers taking on roles including buddying and supporting in workshops. A core group of seven of these volunteers took this a stage further and achieved a Level two Mentoring qualification. They have also completed Speaker bootcamp, Trauma informed, Mental Health first aid and Suicide Prevention training.
A small group of participants worked with Fallen Angels’ artistic director on the Storyhouse co-production of Faustus: That Damned Woman by sharing their lived experience in the development of the work.
In year three the focus was on co-creation which culminated with the creation and performance of Equinox.
